SouthPoint Lobby Benches
A stone’s throw from the Tennessee state line in Southaven, Mississippi is SouthPoint Church, located in an old theater. The front lobby features a wall of glass - which is fantastic for filling the lobby with natural light. But, the glass doors have a way of disappearing between the glass panels.
So, they asked for some benches to fill the space between the doors and guide attendees to the glass that opens. While I typically design furniture to be as ergonomical as possible - the purpose of the lobby is to lead attendees to the service in the auditorium instead of camping out in the lobby and it was requested that these benches keep that in mind.
The resulting design was some lower than typical benches that aren’t as enticing of a seat, but feature stunning black walnut live edge slabs from the Appalachian foothills of North East Kentucky. They’re very elegant benches with a modern aesthetic that fit the furniture of the rest of the lobby, guide individuals toward the doors, but aren’t as inviting as the preferred seating in the venue.
